There is no more prevalent metaphor in our human cosmic experience than that of light and dark.
Lightness v. Darkness – the ultimate contrast, yes?
So in this Space Log (SLog), I invite you to think back to your brightest moments and your darkest hours. Quite the contrast, right?
We want to stay in the light as long as we can … although residents of the northernmost habitable latitudes on Earth know that this can get old after a while! Enough already!
Think about it though, we need the light both emotionally and physically – it is every bit as essential as H20 – if you know what I mean.
In the vast outer reaches of the cosmos, it is very, very dark … natural light is difficult to find – it is as if you were in a submarine 200 leagues under the deep blue sea. So you are left with relying on sunlamps and artificial light to balance-out the absence of same.
But the real reason I wanted to point this contrast out, is that appreciating the light can only truly occur when we know what it is like to be in the dark for long periods of time. The bleak and unsettling darkness of our ‘inner cave’ so to speak.
To go forward, to be enlightened … seek the light – this is the stuff we are made of!
To be continued ….
In the future, everything is possible!
