Hello SOTGC community,
Courage, one of the most lovely qualities I have ever found in another human being. The ability to be bold and victorious at all costs according to one’s own dream and vision no matter what it looks like to the rest of the world. Courage comes in a varied array of packages but one size, HUGE!
As October celebrates the courage of women who have waged war against cancer, focuses on bringing awareness to us all about understanding and recognizing this foe and raises funds to provide treatment and obliterate it, I felt it important to address our need for courage, faith and belief in victory here in our Lip-gloss Diaries.
While heart disease is the number one death threat to women in the US, it is estimated that 1 in 8 women in the US face the threat of breast cancer. “Breast cancer is by far the most common cancer diagnosed in women worldwide, ranking second in both sexes combined. An estimated 1.38 million women across the world were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, accounting for nearly a quarter (23%) of all cancers diagnosed in women (11% of the total in men and women).” –http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/cancer-info/cancerstats/world/breast-cancer-world/
I know disease isn’t pretty but the women who face it themselves or alongside loved ones with uncompromising courage display the brightest of beauty. 2 childhood friends, 1 co-worker, 1 paternal aunt, 1 cousin- all women in my life touched by breast cancer who fought and won and who taught me a great deal about a courageous character.
I believe Jacqueline Bisset said it so well, “Character contributes to beauty. It fortifies a woman as her youth fades. A mode of conduct, a standard of courage, discipline, fortitude, and integrity can do a great deal to make a woman beautiful.”
Courage fortifies a woman. As we renew our minds and remain in power over life’s circumstances choosing to live life healthy, strong and emotionally stable rather than letting life live us, what is there that we cannot accomplish? What is it that you find yourself saying or thinking to yourself about yourself every day? (Did you know that 85% of what we think today are the identical thoughts we had yesterday? We can actively change that statistic by renewing our minds and thinking new thoughts.) Are you kind and loving to yourself? Do you say confidently as you stand bare in front of the bathroom mirror that you are beautiful, strong and fit no matter what the reflection seems to say? Do you let yourself dream giant dreams made for you and not doubtingly ask, “but how“? Do you choose to simply smile even when the day is a little tough and thus gain the energy needed to make it all the way through? Do you believe and speak aloud that you are powerful, focused and live with purpose? Do you love others well and as a result receive great love in return? All of this can be true of your life and you will bring into your life the very things on which you focus and speak about. So if you don’t want it, by all means, don’t talk about it every day. Be fortified with courage and walk tall in your very real beauty.
“What is our aim? I can answer in one word: VICTORY. VICTORY in spite of all terror, VICTORY, however long and hard the road may be: for without VICTORY, there is no survival.” – Winston Churchill

“Because of your faith, it will happen.” Matthew 9:29 The Bible, New Living Translation. How real is your belief in your life dreams, your real purpose and your ability to overcome all obstacles to see them come to pass? Does your courage need a little strengthening?
