San Diego, CA – Two local women are hitting the national stage after being included in Forbes Top 100 Websites for your Career. Marney Reid, founder of Stilettos on the Glass Ceiling (www.StilettosontheGlassCeiling.com) and Anna Runyan, founder of Classy Career Girl (www.ClassyCareerGirl.com) have both created successful online communities focused on helping women succeed in their careers. While the focus of their sites are similar, Marney and Anna have taken different approaches to how they define the success of their respective businesses and how they engage women in the process.
Stilettos on the Glass Ceiling is a community of women authors who share their perspectives on work, life and creating your own definition of success in your career. “I wanted to create a global forum of support where we do NOT focus on the negatives,” says Marney. “SOTGC is place where women could come together and share inspiring stories, lessons learned, and through this help other women realize that there IS no Glass Ceiling when we decide not to allow it to be a personal barrier.” Marney recently launched the SOTGC Glass Ceiling Transcendent Awards to recognize women in business who didn’t shatter the “glass ceiling,” but who rose above it.
Classy Career Girl began as a place where Anna could share her expertise, “I wanted to share the advice that I was given and the advice that I wish I would have been given about being a woman in the business world. It was a way to document what I was learning in hopes that it would help other professional women succeed in their careers.” Anna has gone on to create the Classy Career Girl Get Ahead Club and launched her Get Your Career Unstuck Bootcamp series.
In a world where Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In message is dominating the online business world, it can be a challenge for other women to apply those messages to their real lives. Marney and Anna are making that possible by bringing women together and redefining what they think of as career success. The two are also looking forward to collaborating on projects in the near future.
About Marney Reid, Stilettos on the Glass Ceiling
By day, Marney Reid is a leader in surgical device sales who has become clinically and strategically one of the best in her company. Despite that, Marney didn’t feel “successful” because she hadn’t yet found the courage to define her own version of success. She created Stilettos on the Glass Ceiling as a global forum to empower, support, and promote women and to dispel the myth of the “glass ceiling” through positivity and a strong sense of community.
