Hello SOTGC community,
HR Captain’s Log Star Date: AD 2013
Clearly, the long range vision that we have come to know as Star Trek, featured
Inclusion & Diversity as front and center in the leadership and crew of the Starship Enterprise. We know for a fact that our world is increasingly diverse in its complexion, and that business enterprises both large and small will continue to fulfill its organizational ranks with heterogeneous teams. The premise has been, and always will continue to be, that the more diverse the make-up of an organization, the more innovative its product and services offerings.
That said, what will the future of Human Resources (HR) look like?
Far more pro-active and collaborative within and without the business than ever before.
HR practitioners will operate in a much more ‘upstream’ manner. HR will design work around talent rather than vice versa. Talent assessment will become increasingly more critical, but much more comprehensive and detailed toward creating sophisticated skill and knowledge databases from which to craft high-performing teams.
HR will partner to facilitate innovation and innovation practices within the enterprise. One of its primary purposes will be to oversee optimal fit and purpose between the person and the business objectives.
This is a reversal of sorts.
Rather than people as ‘resources,’ people will be empowered to shape their own destinies. HR will broker intrapreneurial contracts between the firm and its constituents. Empowered employees will be able to actualize their own ideas, draft their own contracts and deliver value-added innovation to the business.
HR will be global, real-time, 24/7 and hyper-connected to the warp speed of the marketplace.
Instead of a back office, administrative endeavor, the HR function will lead through its expertise in the disciplines of psychology, psycho-biology, sociology, psychometrics, training simulations, and ergonomic analysis. The emphasis will be on forging optimal relationships between talent and opportunity/opportunity and talent. The synergies, permutations and creative combinations, not unlike DNA, will be endless.
Employees from different disciplines will fulfill rotational assignments within HR. HR will become the ultimate work and knowledge exchange. Global employee exchange and diversity will rule.
Beam us up Scotty!
