highheelgolferHello SOTGC community,

I attended a conference a few weeks ago and the one thing that really stuck with me was a talk by Sanjiv Sidhu about keeping your emotions stable despite circumstances. This really hit home to me as a solopreneur. I’m constantly excited or devastated by negative comments about my business, great workshops, the feeling of finishing something to know you have to start all over again, and every other circumstance that might be thrown at me as an entrepreneur. So to think I could learn to control my emotions despite the ups and downs intrigued me. So how do you stay empowered despite circumstance? First off you should wait for Sanjiv to teach you, but in the meantime I’ll do my best.

There are 5 steps you need to master, but the first 2 are the most difficult and we will go over them today in this post.

  1. Have awareness
  2. Modulate you emotions
  3. Control your impulses
  4. Find clarity
  5. Develop focus

Awareness is the key. When we are feeling emotions from circumstances our first step is to name it. Say wow you feel: angry, anxious, happy, ecstatic, etc.  Then ask your self why, and then don’t judge your answers.  Just own the feeling and let it be, this is the fastest way to staying empowered despite our circumstances.

So what I do to stay empowered despite my circumstances is to first label my feeling, IE “wow I am nervous that not enough people will come to my event.” Then I ask my self “why I feel that way?”  My honest answer is ” I’m afraid the host site will never invite me back.”  Then I realize that I cannot change how someone else thinks or acts, what will be will be, so let it go. And by now the anxiety should have subsided, if it doesn’t try thinking that way all over again until it sticks.

So that’s it for now, try using these quick techniques to help you stay empowered despite your circumstances.

Jennifer Harris

Jennifer has spent her entire life in the golf world. She picked up her first club at age 7 and entered the competitive arena at 16. Despite her talent as a golfer she opted out of a walk on spot at The Ohio State University for pursuits in another field. Her enthusiasm and passion to become an entrepreneur lead her to graduate with a psychology and marketing degree and shortly thereafter began Highheelgolfer; combining both her zeal for business success and her ongoing lust for golf.
With her unique teaching methods, psychological background and golfing talents she has developed a concept that aims to offer a fun new way to learn golf for business. Jennifer is also an 11 Handicap and her lowest score on 18 holes was a 65.
She created highheelgolfer to teach women HOW they can get ahead in her career through forming relationships, building trust, and networking while playing golf. The biggest fear women have is “I don’t know how to play.” So Jenn’s workshops teach you how to play, how to play fast, to play with proper etiquette, but more importantly, how to form those relationships that can get you that next promotion, that next interview, and sometimes to even keep your job.
