Hello SOTGC community,
What I learned in my Spring Cleaning journey – I am fully deserving of a “new coat of paint”; free to throw out my busted wedges from last summer along with my fear of failure and past frustration in exchange for my true & completely courageous self in hot pursuit of my dreams, fully restored health and an abundantly full life. I was created for greatness, not mediocrity and so are you.
Well, it sure is Monday again (they seem to come every single week). I used to dread Mondays, the predictable situations and identical presentations to similar clients. The now memorized scripts over the same coffees or known tables at regular restaurants. While it feels pretty good to be a master at my “job” it feels even better to have some adventure, some bigger, more personal risks and no limits to my success as it fits into my personal priorities. So, say it with me, I LOVE MONDAYS!!! It means new people, new conversations, new learning opportunities (and WOW am I learning to more effectively navigate the social media waters which I once avoided at all cost because I didn’t have time “for that ridiculousness” Ha! – Thanks SOTGC!) Monday – a new day with no mistakes (Anne of Green Gables). Monday – when last week’s failures become the “opportunity to begin again more intelligently”. Monday – the day I am most courageous for “When the leader lacks confidence, the followers lack commitment.” Monday – The day I am Full of Awesome!
So today, Monday, I choose my words carefully as they drip sweet wisdom from my perfectly pouted lips. And how do I get these lips that way? Practice, practice, practice, every day…
“Your mouth is constantly exposed to food, drinks, sunlight, makeup, and often drying oral-hygiene products,” says David H. McDaniel, a dermatologist in Virginia Beach, Virginia. “These elements, combined with your mouth’s thin skin, lack of oil glands, little to no melanin, plus frequent facial movement, can have an aging effect on the lips over time.” (See Real Simple’s “All About Lips” for more)
Exfoliate, soften and hydrate lips regularly. Twice a week, use a gentle, lip specific exfoliant to get the crusties off the corners of your ever so gifted mouth and follow with a nightly hydrating balm. Remember, it’s what the world is watching when you are delivering an important, powerful message.
Try Mary Kay’s Satin Lips set $18 http://www.marykay.com/cobi/en-US/Gifts/Satin-Lips-Set/180301.partId?eCatId=10686
Treat your lips to the ultimate two-step system that gently exfoliates and moisturizes your lips.
- Satin Lips® Lip Mask effectively exfoliates dead surface skin cells.
- Satin Lips® Lip Balm moisturizes lips for at least six hours.
Then prep on purpose for color to stay put and not fade or run into those tiny little creases that show up as we gracefully move beyond the age of 29. Use an age-fighting primer on clean lips & kiss lip lines goodbye. TimeWise® Age-Fighting Lip Primer creates healthier-looking lips by fighting fine lines and wrinkles while light-diffusing microspheres decrease their appearance. Use it on lips, inside and outside your lip line to extend lipstick wear and prevent lipstick and lip gloss from feathering and bleeding.
Lip Liner, do I have to wear it? Only if you want ultimate staying power from your lip color and want your lips to look full and youthful. You can even choose to wear a clear lip liner. Choose a color that’s one shade darker than your natural lip color for a natural look or a color that most nearly matches your lipstick for a bolder lip then fill in your entire lip area; Start at the cupids bow of your top lip, then with short strokes draw all the way to the corners. Then move to the center of your bottom lip and draw out to each corner and make the top and bottom lines meet. Then gently color inside the lines and top with your favorite lipstick. After you leave the office and head out for a date, girls night or bubble bath and glass of your favorite wine, re-apply your lip color and dab on a little gloss and voila… you’ve just joined JT in bringin’ sexy back!
Now, let’s go shopping and build your personal Lip Color Wardrobe:
To Take Color to the Next Level, pair a moisturizing, collagen enhancing lipstick with a matching or brighter lip gloss. Apply your favorite begging-to-go-bold shade. Gently blot lips. Apply lip gloss with your desired level of shine or shimmer.
Try: True Dimensions Lipstick in Pink Cherie toped with Nourishine Plus Lip Gloss in Pink Luster by Mary Kay.
For a Stained Lip Look, Use your fingertip as an applicator. Lightly pat lipstick onto lips using your index finger. Gently blot lips with a tissue to help set the color and remove excess.
Try: True Dimension Lipstick in Sizzling Red for a Red-Hot Classic or Mystic Plum for Spring’s fresh face. More intense colors work best for the stained look.
Try: Bold pink lipstick (Wild About Pink) with a natural bronze or café lip gloss (Beach Bronze or Café au Lait).
