Hello SOTGC community,
My life is busy, REALLY busy! I’m a mother of three boys and one girl, a wife, freelance graphic designer, life coach, entrepreneur, and wedding planner for my daughter’s wedding! So why do I feel compelled to tell everyone else why I haven’t done what I said I would do? Am I trying to convince them that I’m super busy or am I trying to validate myself? Looking deeper in to this compulsive and quite irritating trait I’ve developed, I’ve uncovered some interesting insights.
I seem to have enough time to get my hair done, however, getting to the tax organizer my accountant has been requesting for the past month is far more difficult! I know that it’s not uncommon for people to put pleasure before perceived pain, but generally they don’t dictate their 101 excuses to the ones they’ve flaked on!
After a little soul searching, I’ve realized that I ask to be excused with my list of reasons so that I don’t hurt their feelings and more interestingly, in hopes that they don’t label me a flake. See, with every behavior good or bad, our unconscious mind has a hidden agenda, and that agenda is always to protect oneself.
Because I want to protect myself and my reputation in business, I’ve decided to stop procrastinating, stop making excuses and start managing my time better. I’d like to reach out to all you amazing professionals and open the discussion on “Time Management.” We all have so much to fit in to a day, how do you prioritize? Where does family and exercise fit in? Will I have time for a nap?
So ladies? What tips and tricks do we have to offer Michelle? Please leave comments on what you do to “make it all happen.”
