Hello SOTGC community,
Last time we spoke about being intentional with your words, which is the perfect segway for this topic. When passively and actively networking it is very important to remember that EVERYTHING is an interview.
As you go about your day, you will constantly run into people who could be your next big connection. Thanks to the amazing amount of digital access and content we have today, the world has gotten smaller and smaller. It’s very likely that you can find someone you are interviewing for, or want to connect, with easily on social media, and they can also learn a lot about you.
Everything from the things you post, like, and follow on social media could count for or against you if you’re actively looking to move up in your company, or into another one. Even something as simple as the daily conversations that you think are harmless enough, could make or break that next big opportunity you’re looking for.
Remember this: no matter what you’re doing, what venue or location you’re in, if you’re an ambitious corporate career gal, EVERYTHING is an interview. The conversation you have, your attitude towards the person you’re talking to BEFORE you realize they are someone who could truly help your career or business, and your entire dialogue during that “passive networking” conversation, is an interview. So be intentional with your words and remember that passive networking can oftentimes turn itself into very active networking if you let it.
