Hello SOTGC community,
We are days away from a gigantic wave of almost 3 million Apple Watches that hit stores April 24th. The trend of smart devices only continues to evolve and the Apple Watch is no exception, taking us to the next level of ‘connected’. If 2014 was marked as year of the smartphone, we have every reason to believe that 2015 will be remembered as year of the smartwatch. All eyes (and wallets) are on the prestigious, Apple Watch. It is a little unorthodox to begin any review with price, however, the inevitable part of Apple’s prestigious concept is directly associated with price itself.
Your Apple Watch journey begins with the Sport Model; expect to pay $349 or $399, depending on your choice of a 38mm or a 42mm model. Your next stop is the Apple Watch Steel; when it comes to this model, the price range is from $549 to $1,099. As usual, Apple saves the best for last. Therefore, with no exaggeration we can say that the Apple Watch Edition is a true synonym for prestige. This model has many different options including one with 18k gold; the price for an Apple Watch Edition starts at five-figures, and ranges from $10K all the way up to $17K.
- Apple Watch Sport 38mm Model $349
- Apple Watch Sport 42mm Model $399
- Apple Watch Steel 42mm Model from $549 to $1099
- Apple Watch Edition Model from $10,000 to $17,000
There is also an ultra-exclusive gold and diamond option for about $164,000 which comes in yellow, platinum or rose gold by special order only.
The Apple Watch is all about notifications, and reading emails on your wrist. In addition, you can answer phone calls, all the convenience without the hassle of trying to find your iPhone at the bottom of your purse. Notifications for the following apps: Facebook, Twitter, and WeChat are also available. When it comes to messaging, Apple has included the most common options that you can use in a quick and easy way.
Apple puts a strong emphasis on achieving your fitness goals with the help of Apple Watch. Fitness tracking is supposed to be one of its greatest advantages, so a heart rate monitor as well as activity tracker is included. Another great feature on the Apple Watch is ApplePay and the PassBook, bringing commerce transactions to a whole new level of convenience and speed.
In terms of the mobile OS platform, you can expect the latest IOS 8.2. You are not going to be thrilled with the 8GB’s of storage space if you plan on listening to music regularly. However, when you compare it with the 4GB available on the Android Wear, then it doesn’t sound like such a bad deal.

I understand for those tech gurus that love to have the latest gadget (my husband is one of them!) that purchase is inevitable. They will make the argument that it is so much easier to look at your wrist than to take a 4.7-inch iPhone 6, or even worse a 5.5-inch iPhone 6+ out of your pocket each time you want to check your messages or answer a phone call.
When you take into consideration that the price itself has been the least of Apple users’ worries, then an Apple Watch doesn’t have any serious drawbacks. Again, when it comes to the notifications, you will be able to easily dismiss the irrelevant ones, and ensure that you don’t miss the important ones. This is undoubtedly a priceless feature for many.
I can honestly see where this device would be very handy for when you are in a meeting; instead of distracting co-workers by taking out your phone you can simply look at your watch without offending anyone. So the benefits are there…the question really leads to is the investment worth it? I may get my husband an Apple Watch but I will be waiting for the new Tag Heuer smartwatch that will be powered by Google to hit the market!
