Hello SOTGC community,
I traveled last week to see one of my friends, and, as habits have it, everybody has a different morning ritual. She gets up quite early (even on a weekend), usually between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m., to see the sunrise. She loves the mornings where only a few people are up because it makes her feel as if she has a leg up on life. She then puts on a cup of coffee and, still in her bathrobe, sits either on the patio or inside taking in the peaceful morning.
I sat in awe because that is hardly what my morning looks like. Like her I will put on coffee to get me going, but even before I do that I have the TV already switched on to see what the news has to offer that day. I always watch the same channel, and I get ready in the bathroom drinking a glass of water with baking soda. It sounds awful to some; however nothing gets your metabolism going as a glass of warm water with lemon or a glass of water with baking soda.
By the time I am done with my shower and makeup, my coffee is actually drinkable, and I go to make myself breakfast and pack lunch. Once I have that sorted, I proceed to get into my clothes before I leave the house an hour later. Phew!
Comparing these two mornings I didn’t even realize how chaotic and time-sensitive my mornings actually are. Maybe I need the tight time schedule to get me going in the morning while my friend needs that quiet, peaceful time before the hectic day gets a hold of her.
I started asking my other friends what they do in the morning, and some say they get up even earlier to hit the gym, because nothing makes them feel more energized than getting a workout, while others say they will start with 10 minutes of yoga or some kind of meditation pose.
I know I like my mornings but I would like to experiment with something new that will switch it up for me. I am challenging myself to drinking a glass of fresh pressed juice in the morning instead of a cup of coffee and taking time to actually sit and enjoy it before I keep my tight schedule for the day. We need to continue to challenge ourselves in different ways, even if it’s sitting at a different restaurant table, eating with your left hand instead of your right hand, or ordering for something that you normally wouldn’t eat.
What will you challenge yourself with this week? Scrutinize your morning rituals and habits and set yourself goals. It will not only be a fun experience, but it will also energize you to do something different in life than you are accustomed to doing.
