Hello SOTGC community!
“Dreams come a size too big so that we can grow into them” ~ Josie Bisset
This is, by far, one of my favorite quotes; a quote that speaks to the need to dream big, ambitiously, and hopefully.
The following are three questions that I hope will inspire each and every one of us to thoughtfully consider the nature of our dreams. Questions that provide insight into the grandeur of our dreams so we do not sell ourselves short when it comes to life aspirations and plans!
- If you were able to take realism out of the picture, what would your dreams be? If you were able to remove the logistics, practicalities, technicalities, and roadblocks of everyday life, what would your dreams look like? In an ideal world, these inevitable challenges would not threaten our ability to achieve our dreams. This is not to say, however, that these challenges of everyday life are insurmountable. Peel away some of the “realism” and gain a sense of what your uninhibited dreams would look like. Choose to be realistic in finding solutions to these challenges but choose to be completely uninhibited when it comes to the dreaming part. Dream big and wide and deep!
- If you were able to erase all fears and worries, what would your dreams be? We are all guilty of dampening our wildest dreams by fears and worries. Sometimes it is the fear of failure that makes us cut back on our aspirations. Sometimes big dreams require a great leap of faith and the journey ahead seems treacherous and taxing. Trying to imagine our dreams aside from the associated fears and worries is a great way of separating the two. It is equally useful to see both elements individually in order to be able to better deal with both.
- What advice about dreams would you give your five-year-old self? When we give advice to children we tend to present the world as a collection of endless possibilities. Why change the way we approach dreams as adults? Picture yourself giving advice to your five-year-old self; what would you tell yourself? Take the hypothetical advice to heart.
