Hello SOTGC community,
I recently attended a TEDx Salon in San Diego that was all about women and the ‘Challenge in Creating Change’ and it was all about women. So naturally I got all dolled up and got ready to get empowered about being a woman and being the change I want to see in the world.
Well, as usual, TEDx always delivers, and the three speakers were just wonderful. One of the speakers, Lynn Schenk, had a powerful message that I wanted to share.
Lynn is an attorney, and was the 1st woman to serve as Chief of Staff to CA Governor Gray Davis, and the 1st woman elected to U.S. Congress south of Los Angeles. She spoke about a time when men at university had the use of 2 bathrooms, while women had to walk a good distance to use the ladies room. She spoke about a time when women weren’t allowed in the University Club, and she passionately spoke about the time when she decided to do something about it.
As Lynn spoke you could feel the positive energy fill the room. Some of us wondered if we had it easy since women’s rights have come such a long way, but as Lynn looked out at the crowd, she boldly let us know that there is still so much work to do, and that each of us must discover what gets under our skin, and then find a way to make a positive change.
And then she spoke about something that is so important and true: She used to get enraged with what she was seeing, and she could have just let that rage build, but she did something else instead…she banned together with other outraged women. She went on the explain that the anger she felt could have created a negative effect on her life, but that by coming together with like-minded women, they were able to grow so much stronger and ultimately create the change they wanted.
Hearing Lynn speak made me realize how powerful a group of determined women can really be. She made me realize that my ability to make change in the world increases tenfold when I bring like-minded people together to support each other, empower each other, pool our resources, and be a powerful force out in the world.
So let’s go make some positive change in the world. Tell me in the comments below what positive change you want to help make in the world?
And don’t forget that TEDx San Diego takes place on Saturday, November 8th. The awesome news is that we have our own SOTGC promo code to get %15 off of a ticket to TEDx San Diego. Get your ticket now for 15% off.
