Hello SOTGC community,
Today we want to raise awareness to a wonderful charity gala coming up that our SOTGC Women In Medicine honoree (Dr. Amanda Gosman) and her non profit organization are hosting.
ConnectMed is a non-profit organization founded by pediatric plastic surgeon Dr. Amanda Gosman to provide reconstructive surgeries to children and adults around the world who suffer from deformities and disfiguring injuries. Through telemedicine, we are able to provide follow up care after each surgery, as well as educational resources to health care providers and students around the world. Together, we transform lives.
About the fundraiser:
Plans are underway to create additional sites for surgical and educational collaboration as the need in developing countries is growing at a desperate rate. All of our surgeries and follow-up care services are provided at no charge to our patients. This is where our donors come in. Every year ConnectMed International hosts a fundraiser gala to raise the funding needed for future outreach programs. This year our gala will be held at the Marina Village Catalina Room in Mission Bay on Saturday, October 4th. Tickets will be sold for $125 each, with table and event sponsorship options available online.
The Difference In The Lives Of The Children You’ll Help:
Cleft lip and palate is the second most common congenital birth defect occurring 1 in 700 births worldwide. Children in developing countries are often put in orphanages, abandoned by their parents and villages due to this condition. There are many heartbreaking stories of children who have lived in pain and isolation for too long, all with a correctable birth defect. Successful treatment requires numerous surgeries, and extensive follow-up care from a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, nurses, speech therapists, orthodontists, geneticists and nutritionists.
Where The Proceeds Go:
Proceeds of the gala will provide much needed surgeries and follow-up care for the children we serve. Please help us to continue to help them. The organization has had tremendous success developing projects in collaboration with the Hospital Infantil de las Californias in Tijuana, Mexico, ABC Community Hospital in Malawi, Africa, and in March of this year Vietnam.
