Hello SOTGC community,
Have you ever gotten a song stuck in your head? I do all the time. In fact, sometimes I don’t even realize that I am humming the lyrics to my latest favorite song, which currently happens to be Bailando by Enrique Iglesias (the Spanish version). The problem I keep running into is that it cuts into my productivity, makes me feel like I am in a rut, and a little crazy at times. Then recently, I discovered an easy way to clear your mind of all that crazy repetition. I actually discovered it by accident and have been using it successfully for weeks. So what is it? Well, you just have to whistle. Ok there’s a little more to it than that. Here is the 4 step process.
- Take as deep a breath as you can, like you are getting ready to hold your breath.
- Begin to whistle. Make sure it is one single tone. You don’t want to whistle a song that will just get stuck in your head. The exercise is really about resetting your brain by making this one sound.
- Whistle until you can’t whistle anymore and the breath is completely gone.
- Repeat several times…I usually do it 3 or 4 times.
If you notice the thought coming back, just do it again. Hopefully you won’t notice that you aren’t thinking about that one thing, because you won’t be thinking about it at all. That might seem like a silly statement, but the goal is to help clear your mind….and it works. Now that you have cleared, and in some ways, reset your mind, you can focus your thoughts on more productive and fulfilling thoughts and activities.
