Hello SOTGC community,

Did you groan reading my title? I know that it’s typical to hate Mondays and for good reason: the weekend is gone, back to work mode, and the alarm just goes off so dang early! I get it and I’m right there with you hitting the snooze. However, Mondays have become my favorite day of the work week and here’s why:

1. I am most productive on Monday. Usually, I have had the weekend off, meaning limited time on my computer and quality time with loved ones, so I feel refreshed and rejuvenated for the week ahead. Also, due to the two days off, my Mondays are busy, so I don’t have time to procrastinate, and the day just flies by. For this reason, I “front-load” my schedule, putting all important deadlines in the first half of the week, since I know I’m least productive on Friday. I take advantage of the days I know I will get the most done.

You’ll be amazed how much you can accomplish in a single day just be diving in and doing it.

2. I start the morning with yoga. Every Monday morning, I take a yoga class which helps me get focused for the week ahead. Even if my inbox seems overwhelming, I have an hour to be good to my mind and body, and put everything into perspective, especially my day-to-day work, while meditating on my future goals.

Starting my week in a controlled, relaxed state mind helps me handle the hectic pace that usually follows. Always squeeze in time for some exercise of the body and mind.

3. I plan something to look forward to on Monday night. Fun in life doesn’t have to be limited to only a few days of the week. I always plan or set aside an activity every Monday specifically to give me something to look forward to at the end of the day. Even if it’s something as simple as saving a stack of magazines to be read while drinking hot tea, scheduling these little pleasures helps me unwind and not dread the start of the week so much.

Choose something you love to do: dinner with friends, a glass of wine and a good book, or watching your favorite “guilty pleasure” tv and mark it as a calendar reminder so you know when your work is done, you will be rewarded.

Being self-employed also means being self-motivated so really tune into what works best for you to be your most productive (and happy!) self. If you have tips to share, I’d love to hear them. Tweet me @mscourtneybeth with your best ones!
