Hello SOTGC community!
Spring has sprung, and summer is nearly here in the northern hemisphere. School graduations, summer weddings, family vacations, and mid-year business travel are all entering full bloom. It’s exciting to move around the globe and see new sights, but with travel security high and carry-on luggage regulations requiring us to keep our hauls to a minimum, packing everything you need in the right amount of space can add unwanted stress. So, I thought I would share some insider tips to help make packing your beauty items a breeze every time.
If you don’t yet have one of these …
I hope to help out with a series of “travel tips” posts for you early in this season, so be sure to come back to get the whole scoop. We’ll cover the best bags to carry on, the right tools that pack a punch in pint-size versions, quick get-ready tips that keep you looking great in half the time, and what products you shouldn’t go without. Everything from packing to hair to glamour, we’ve got you covered! All aboard …. (But not like Una Healy of the band The Saturdays – pictured on the left – and more like the super sharp traveler on the right without the struggle.)
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has requirements to which we must adhere when traveling via airways. If you can get away with packing just a carry-on and business tote with purse, you can rest easy your luggage will always arrive with you and you’ll save a few minutes by not waiting at the check in counters/kiosks or the baggage carousel.
Another great way to save time and frustration is to register with the TSA pre-check system (it’s great!). “TSA Pre✓™ allows low-risk travelers to experience expedited, more efficient security screening at participating U.S. airport checkpoints” by way of shorter lines and skipping the removal of belts, shoes, light outerwear and jackets, laptops and 3-1-1 compliant toiletry bags from your carry-on, explains the helpful Travel & Leisure website. Wheee! “The TSA’s expedited security program has expanded to include international flights departing from the U.S. on eight of the agency’s partner airlines. You can also use TSA Pre-Check lanes if you’re connecting to a domestic flight after arriving in the States. Bear in mind, if you booked a ticket through a TSA partner airline but your flight is actually operated by a foreign alliance carrier, you are not eligible for PreCheck. ” the Travel & Leisure website reports.
Also available for international travel operated by foreign carriers is the Global Entry program through the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency. While it takes a little more time to complete an in-depth application, if you’re a regular globe trotter, you’ll find it well worth the effort. And, with a Trusted Traveler registration, you automatically get TSA Pre-Check. So, for the extra $15 to become a Trusted Traveler, it’s worth it. Why? Peter Greenberg gives us his educated two bits: “Global Entry allows expedited customs screenings 100 percent of the time at eligible airports. Even if an airport offers a PreCheck lane, TSA PreCheck doesn’t apply 100 percent of the time. Even those who are approved may still be subject to random screenings and not have access to the expedited line.”
So what about the 3-1-1 Compliant Bags? Stop wasting your time and pennies with your kitchen Ziploc baggies that don’t hold up very long with constant use on your trips. Get a super nifty, well-made 3-1-1 compliant bag that allows you to pack your 3.4 oz. toiletries in one bag and not have to remove them separately to place in a bin. If you are Pre-check approved, you don’t have to remove them at all because they will be easily visible through X-Ray.
For women, I suggest a travel roll-up bag with 3 to 4 zippered, clear plastic removable pockets. This bag will fit all of your makeup, hair and body products and keep them neat and organized. With removable pockets, you can take one pocket with you to the beach, business meeting or special event for quick touch ups.
Of course you’ll need a few clear plastic bottles and mini funnel to fill with your favorite shampoo, conditioner, body crème, sunscreen and skin care. I love the Human Gear GoToob travel bottles because they are BPA Free, easy to label and fill, seal well, and squeeze perfectly when I need what’s inside.
Next, add one of three pre-filled daily essentials wallets from The P.A.K. Store to your purse or business satchel and you’re ready to fly! By the way, The P.A.K. Store was a finalist for best woman-owned businesses in Austin, TX. They are fabulous!
What to do now …. Be a dah-ling and share this article before leaving this page with at least one woman in your tribe whom you know could also use a little help in this area. Send it via email or your favorite social media outlet. Then, determine which or all of these items you could really use in your packing tool box and obtain at least one this week.
I can’t wait to hear how savvy a jet-setter you’ve become after this summer by putting to good use some of the ideas you find here!
