Hello SOTGC community,
This week, singer Lorde tweeted a fantastic photo of herself. A side by side comparison of what she looks like both photo shopped and completely unedited. She followed up by posting a photo of herself with no makeup:
Lorde, a role model to young teens around the world, sent a clear message: we should celebrate ourselves for who we are, flaws and all. And there are other companies and celebrities who also send this positive and uplifting message! Kiera Knightly, Kate Winslet, Aeire Swim and Lingere, Free People, and Seventeen Magazine just to name a few.
These companies and celebrities have celebrated and encouraged women to be who they are. And, interestingly, this not only gives women a healthier body image, but it sells too! According to Cosmopolitan Magazine, “One year ago, Free People launched FPMe, an online community where customers can upload shoppable photos of themselves in their Free People outfits. Additionally, online items are often accompanied by photos of customers wearing them. Data from the past year has shown a 42 percent improvement in the same session conversion rate (i.e. someone buys something) on FreePeople.com when FP Me Pics are associated with product on the page.”
Let’s encourage other companies and celebrities to follow Aerie, Free People, Seventeen, Keira Knightly, Kate Winslet, and Lorde’s example!
