Hello SOTGC community,
Do you believe that you’re managing your tasks smoothly and efficiently? Do you still keep a paper to-do list or lists? There may be a better way.
I’ve always had multiple to-do lists: a work list, a personal list, a house maintenance list, etc. In the old days of pen and paper, I would use paper notepads or Post-it notes. Then, always looking for more efficient ways to organize, I migrated to keeping one to-do list using a simple text editor on my work PC, and another to-do list on my home PC.
These days, like most people, I have multiple devices: a desktop PC, a notebook PC, a laptop, and a smartphone. My task management system needed to evolve again, so I started looking for an easy way to create multiple lists that could be easily modified and updated and accessed from any of my devices.
The best way to manage with multiple devices is usually with a cloud-based solution. My task management solution now comes from a company called 6Wunderkinder. I have their Wunderlist application running on all of my devices, and I can also access my lists through a web browser.
Wunderlist allows me to “star” important items and automatically puts those items in a separate list (called “Starred”). It also allows me to set due dates, including recurring dates, and reminders. It will create pop-up and email reminders, and it automatically creates another list for all items due “Today.”
I keep my lists in priority order. At the top is my client management list. For each task on that list, I keep a sub-list of client names for which that task applies, and due dates for those clients (I can also add a note to a task.) Going down my top-level list of lists are my other business priories followed by my personal lists.
Wunderlist offers a free version and a “Pro” version. The Pro version offers more collaboration and organization options, with the ability to add attachments, assign tasks to coworkers, and add comments from coworkers.
There are other to-do list apps, including Any.do, Remember The Milk, and Todoist. If you’re so inclined, try them all and see which one works best for YOU!
