Hello SOTGC community,
Like most people, this is my favorite time of year but unlike many of you, not because of the holidays and the great windows at stores such as Neiman Marcus, Barneys or Tiffany, but this is my favorite time of year because, its the time of year that I set my personal goals .
Fifteen years ago on Thanksgiving day, my Dad asked me, what goals have I set for myself both personally and professionally as the new year was approaching? It hadn’t dawn on me simply because I consider things to be going very well in my life, at the time having the position as Director of Stores for Dolce Gabbana was totally a dream come true.
I felt that I had achieve the ultimate in my life, but since dad kept pushing the idea of setting goals I felt that I had nothing to loose.
I decided to go with it and began to write in my journal: 10 things I wanted to achieve that upcoming year, my goals were as big as getting promoted, to as small as adding one more mile to my daily jog. The key was having a written plan, so that I can view as often as I needed. I decided on a monthly basic I would take a glance.
I was suddenly obsessed with my list, and was motivated to take the proper measures of making each of my ten points matter, it also helped that the goals were realistic and attainable . The goal setting became my tradition year after year.
On December 31, I reviewed my goals and checked off the list those that I had achieved, and assessed those that I had not, but at the same time created the new list for the upcoming year.
With this new year quickly approaching and Fifteen years of setting and achieving goals, Although Dad is no longer around, I continue to say Thank You for raising that big important question that we sometimes thread lightly.
