Hello SOTGC community,
Here is a heartfelt post by Jenn Laurent who is the author of Excerpt From The Heart of a Mom. A portion of each sale goes to this charity, which she so passionately believes in. I’d love to hear your stories. What charity are you involved in? What inspired you to want to help? And if you are moved by this post, would you email it to a friend, or post on your Facebook as a sign that you believe helping others enriches your life?
Tonight I sit down to write after my first board meeting with an amazing non-profit organization that I am honored to be working with, Olive Crest. Olive Crest transforms the lives of at-risk children through the healing power of family. Children and families in crisis are taken out of danger and placed into a loving home where there is stability and the opportunity for a future plan to be formed. Children and families are given education and resources that set them up for success and a family for life. Olive Crest has many programs available for all different groups of at risk families and children, wonderful programs that are rooted in connection and love. Wonderful programs that are proving without a doubt to work!
When you enter the Olive Crest offices, you cannot help but feel the positive energy and excitement that exists within the agency. The entire program is rooted in an authentic desire to truly make a difference in the lives of those at risk. Not only does the desire exist, but the belief that it will happen and the individuals that are making that belief become a reality. Each and every time I spend time with the agency, whether at a board meeting, Christmas party, training, or a simple visit, I can honestly say that I leave a better human being. They have this ability to touch your heart, connect you with gratitude and love, and inspire you to help them make a difference.
And so tonight, after a six-hour board meeting, I am not tired or exhausted, rather I am filled with inspiration and excitement. Instead of coming home and going to sleep, I am writing this post to share with all of you how absolutely motivating and uplifting it can be to find a way to help others. To become part of a community that sparks your interests and passions in a way that encourages you to want to give more and more. There are times when I struggle with motivation, times when I falter and am not sure of my direction. The one thing I know that will always place me right back on my path is service to others. This is exactly what has happened here for me tonight.
So thank you Olive Crest, thank you board members, guest speakers, and everyone else involved in today. I am grateful and honored to be a part of your community and look forward to being an individual that makes the dreams of Olive Crest become a reality.
