Hello SOTGC community,
I’m very happy to introduce you to our newest guest author, Ms. Cobi Collins who will be giving us beauty tips under a section called Lip Gloss Diaries. I met Cobi on a plane ride to a conference I was headed to. I sat down, made some random and potentially sarcastic comment, and she and I were good friends 20 minutes later. What impressed me about Cobi was how confortable in her own skin she was. Immediately we launched into a dialogue about females in the corporate environment, about our careers, and about defining our own success. When I mentioned that I needed a “beauty” section for SOTGC she immediately volunteered. Without further ado, I introduce you to our fabulous new author.
Your Mary Kay Lady for life! Cobi is a professional skin care consultant and makeup artist with 21 years’ experience as part of the Mary Kay global sales force. She has been trained by the best makeup artists and skin care developers in the world. These practical skills women value and put to use every single day are the most effective vehicle for her to carry out her true mission to enrich women’s lives: Helping women become priority focused, financially stable and emotionally healthy, to wage war on mediocrity in their own spheres of influence and positively affect the next generation to achieve their best life.
A Southern California native turned Texan, Cobi graduated from Baylor University with a degree in Speech Communications & Spanish. Her big dream was to become a Tony Robbins motivational speaker and trainer in the business field and women’s and family ministries (cue theme song for the Saturday night live skit “Matt Foley”). After university she worked as a language and business teacher in Central Asia while volunteering services to establish a women’s health and medical center – a nearly non-existent entity in this part of the world.
After fulfilling her commitment in Central Asia and wholly enjoying her adventurous time abroad, she was called to Austin, TX to serve in youth ministry and continue the progression of her career in new business development and sales leadership. Moving to Austin, she forged her way as a respected and sought after business development and sales specialist for corporations in the fields of employee development, international trade & transportation, medical project management, and medical technical services. She even had a fun stint as a sales team developer in event planning and catering services.
So what gives? Where do skin care and cosmetics come in? Though Cobi started working with Mary Kay as a freshman in college to pay her personal bills and begin her path to entrepreneurship like the 4 family generations before her and clearly knowing she was called to leadership as a National Sales Director with Mary Kay, she couldn’t get the voices out of her head from the adults she most respected, “You need to be the President or CEO of a Fortune 500 Company and influence the world of business leaders”. So, thinking she could do both, Cobi started the corporate ladder climb (Harlem Shuffle style). Achieving both didn’t work for her. She was wholly committed to being the absolute best in her field and gave 110% of herself to every company she served. Working long days and often nights and weekends, her Mary Kay dream turned part time hobby. The benefits of delaying her big dream? She sincerely enjoyed her work, met amazing people and was blessed to have great mentors who invested in her very real personal and professional growth. They taught her and tested her to develop thick skin, negotiate and close with confidence, relate to and work with people of all backgrounds and status levels without judgement from the homeless to celebrities to former US Presidents and world leaders.
Growing increasingly tired of the corporate grind with little reward according to her priorities, the light bulb came on and she realized Mary Kay is a Fortune 100 company whose business model is taught in Ivy League business programs at Harvard and Yale, offered the best training and support of any direct sales business on the market, provided for important flexibility to pursue her ministry leadership in conjunction with her “day job” and offered an unlimited (no glass ceiling) opportunity to earn what her skills are worth. So, that’s where her focus turned. It was time to move on to her next season of life, away from limiting territories and into the realm of risk taking business owners. Her new journey has just begun.
We hope you will join us over in Lip-gloss Diaries as Cobi shares the hottest tips and trends to keep you looking and feeling your best for whatever challenge or exciting event is coming your way and as she shares her personal journey of cultivating her more feminine side to be the most successful in her business endeavor, serve women well and be transparent in her progress. There a million ways to beautiful, come find yours.
