Hello SOTGC community,
This past weekend I tried reflexology for the first time. My Mom and I were talking about its potential benefits, and since I do a TON of standing during my job, I figured it couldn’t hurt. Normally the idea of someone touching my feet freaks me out. Ask any of my cousins, I am extremely ticklish, which they found out when I was young and being a brat and they would be overcome by the “tickle monster” (which funny enough only seemed to manifest itself in my cousins’ fingers).
About 5 minutes into my session I thought “this is pretty relaxing,” except for the fact that the font desk lady seemed to need to have a very loud conversation on her phone in the room next to us. She must have realized that having a one sided conversation next to a relaxing session was rude, and so the next call she made was done on speakerphone. The only thing better than being privy to a loud one-sided conversation in a language that you cannot understand, is then experiencing a loud TWO-SIDED conversation…in a language you cannot understand.
Overall the experience was a good one. I only giggled a few times when she worked on a particularly ticklish area on my feet, so that was progress. The only slightly shocking thing was at the end of each area she worked on, she would finish by slapping and pounding that area with the front of her fists. The first time she did that I thought, “Holy cow! What is going on?! I hope the beating isn’t extra…” But I assume it served a purpose so I went along with it.
The reason for sharing this super extra special glimpse into my life (heavy sarcasm there) is that trying something new is never a bad thing. Unless your “something new” is ordering French fries with me around and then not letting me have any,” that would NOT be a good thing to try. Going into that reflexology session I was having some major writers block. So I decided to go have a new experience that would hopefully be healthy and beneficial, and in return I got a great foot/back massage (fist pounding and all) and was inspired enough by the idea for this post, that I went home and wrote three posts on top of this one. So if there is something new (and safe and legal) that you’ve wanted to try…what’s holding you back? At the end of the day, if it doesn’t live up to the “hype” that you were hoping it would be…at least there will be some good stories to come out of it.
